Congratulations to Alex Irving for winning the vintage mounted at the Nationals. I ploughed next to him at Taunton on two of the crappiest plots in the class, downhill, uphill and twisting sideways at the same time. It was a real trial just setting your poles up, never mind ploughing, and he had travelled nine hours for the privilege. I retired from the SOP as a result and Alex has battled on. He deserves his reward which, being Scottish, will be very little. Good luck Alex.

Robert's brother?
Where you were on the plots had a big effect on the outcome of this year's national, close to the trade stands ploughed well, nearer to the marshalling area was looser, would not skim and slowed slightly on the boards across all 3 vintage classes, giving the likes of Richard Ingram, Andrew Buckley in the trailed ( one of Shropshire's finest trailed competitors) and myself some severe headaches, other than that the plots on the 2nd day were level and the stubble cut short and baled, the previous day's ploughing was held on chopped straw or long stalks from a crop of poppies that had been combined, not for the faint hearted.
