Does any one know if there is a source of soil maps for the UK like this guy uses from about 2.35 onwards where you can download the boundaries in shape file format?
There are geology and soil maps which can be accessed online, however they are unfortunately not in the detail required for field scale mapping: http://mapapps.bgs.ac.uk/geologyofbritain/home.html & http://mapapps2.bgs.ac.uk/ukso/home.html?layer=SPMTexture . There are high resolution maps in certain areas of the country which were mapped as part of the Soil Survey of England and Wales. We're currently involved in a project with Cranfield University developing a model using our soil brightness imagery and their soil data-sets to create a precision soil map of the UK. This would be a perfect opportunity if you're looking to map the soil types on your farm.
