South Africa land appropriation

So the South African government is going ahead with its policy of taking over white owned farms. Must be terrifying to be in that situation. Any South Africans on here, or anyone know how it's playing out?

I go there a lot, my partners family are all Rhodesian, it’s a sh#t storm out there. Not only in farming bait in General. We go to plettenberg bay for Christmas each year, normally fly into Cape Town, hire a car and drive to plett. It’s to dangerous to do that as they are setting fire to every thing and any thing in the roads. It’s going to pot. I feel for any white farmer out there, a lot of 3rd generation Afrikaans game farmers who will be affected by this I think.

The change is a mere formality, they are making the necessary constitutional change to allow what has had a political mandate for ages. I have some friends and relations in SA, mostly ex-Rhodesia / Zimbabwe, and can confirm what @Deutzdx3 has written.

In the Northern Transvaal particularly, there have been farm invasions and murders for twenty years, the numbers increasing yearly. Little is reported, it isn't politically convenient globally to point out that what was predicted would happen in post-Apartheid SA is happening. Zimbabwe is probably a pretty good template for what to expect.

But... there is some hope, the ANC have probably got only one or two more terms in office before they run out of support among the povo, especially the younger generations.

I've just been talking to a SA farmer who is wanting to leave due to the dangerous and deteriorating situation. They are looking at the US or France as a place to start again and I hope it works out for them.

On the other hand my Zim relations said the other day that they were making plans to return there if necessary as they didn’t trust Corbyn and had more faith in Mngangagwa!

The mind boggles

An Afrikaner friend and his brother left, one for the UK and one for Canada, shortly after the end of apartheid. Neither were farmers but fifteen years ago said that it was quite certainly the next Zimbabwe and neither would return. They judged the situation perfectly and are both highly qualified and very successful businessmen.
How can a country like SA afford to lose such talented people unless they prefer to degenerate into a corrupt third world country without hope?

Whatever else he is, Mnangagwa is clever and is a pragmatist. Corbyn is an idealist, and an idiot.

It can't afford to, but it is now too late, South Africa is a corrupt third world country, although with a bit of hope. The hope is twofold: there is a large white minority with a first-world tradition and mentality, and there is a burgeoning black middle class.

It's not called the rainbow nation for nothing.
Hopefully. That fact and many more enlightened young blacks coming through may save it yet.
Having lived in Africa for 20 + years I do not share your optimism. The events unfolding ( and not being reported by our indigenous media ) were to be expected.Greed & tribalism are the root cause, repeat of Rhodesia 30 odd years ago.
