We will have 41mm in the seven days after we finished drilling last Tuesday. If we get the same again the following week, I will be stressed.
I gave us stressing mid November, I think I ran out of stress by then. In 2020 I vowed never again to try drill in a February weather window. Wheat is resilient but it will not grow in anaerobic slopWe will have 41mm in the seven days after we finished drilling last Tuesday. If we get the same again the following week, I will be stressed.
We planted skyfall end january -6c, to-day 9th feb i can see the rows of wheat, temp to-day is 11c which should keep it growing,it is south essex which is warmer than the rest of uk.Last time we failed to drill our ww was autumn 2019. We drilled it the following Feb (around now) in good conditions and it preceeded to pee down for the following 2 weeks giving us poor establishment. The weather can turn very quickly at this time of year.
Ironically, last Feb would have been ideal for drilling as it was a dry month but the excellent autumn meant everything was already drilled.
Gun on drilling tractor. Going to blast a few in the local woods tonight. How do you all get on with rooks drilling Jan/Feb? We've a fair few now
Struggling with the rooks, wheat just emerging. How do you all get on with rooks drilling Jan/Feb? We've a fair few now
This is our situation I think, got 3/400 constantly hanging around and they don't go far when dispersed. Last field is well behind the rest and has all their attention nowNot too bad if everyone else has also been drilling at the same time. If you're the only one for miles around you will be kept busy. It's usually worse when it's just poking through.
Have u got any dirty grain to tip nearby to entice them off the wheat? This is our situation I think, got 3/400 constantly hanging around and they don't go far when dispersed. Last field is well behind the rest and has all their attention now
54m since Tuesday here.Had nearly 50mm of rain in the last week. Things had just dried out enough to be able to get on the land and work it ready for drilling. I would say that it's now wetter than it was in October. Will it dry out enough to enable us to drill any before the end of the window on the 28th? Looks like there may be some fallow coming...
I had thought of this before but never had the balls to try it, thought it would just make them over confident and call their mates inHave u got any dirty grain to tip nearby to entice them off the wheat?
Now 60mm over past 6 days.
we've had nearly 3 inches in 5 days which is exceptional, even without the wet autumn just passed. recently drilled stuff is like soup under the surfaceHad nearly 50mm of rain in the last week.
