Hi all
I'm looking at a spearhead 550 excel with servo control at the moment. It's in reasonable condition but has had a repair to the arm joined to the head and it's a 3 point with A frame attachment .
Any thoughts or known faults with these machines.I will prob be running it on my 7610 .

I have been using one for 8 years now.Haven't needed a lot in parts but anything I did need wasn't cheap but I would think it's the same with any make.Did have to replace the drive coupling on the rotor a couple of times as the splines were worn but after replacing the splined cog on the motor that fits into the hub as well,I've had no bother since. The new cog was about 1/2 an inch longer giving more contact,IYKWIM!
A lot easier to hitch off and on than a Mcconnel for example, although on a 7610 it would be easier with 2 people as you have no fender switches for the hydraulics. Can be a pain getting the locking pins in on the a frame otherwise.
I would suggest trying before buying if possible and try it in a very heavy hedge to see that the power is there and that that drive hub hasn't got slipping splines but it would be the same with any make really.

I used to operate a highway's version, same thing just painted orange, in 2005. The swan neck and head bracket were all one piece, well, made in to one piece as it was of welded construction, failed. SGM, the hire company came out and replaced the assembly with a new one that was made much stronger. No problem after that. And I concur it was a very easy machine to put on and off.
