Spot Layer feed prices

What is the current feed spot price for a good laying hen ration delivered in 18t loads at the moment?
we fixed nearly 18 months ago and are nearing the end of our futures contract. Currently paying around the £230 level for a peak lay mash, and not looking forward it ending to say the least.

Firstly, that long hedge was a very shrewd move, well done!

I saw some peak lay prices around £280 with start lay around £300 at the end of Feb. Are you tied into buying your feed from a certain mill or can you shop around?

Thankyou, it was more luck than judgement but at the time feed was the lowest it had been for nearly a decade, and we felt it was a good deal, we fixed for 12 months at £225, and managed to fix for a further 6 months for £5 extra so the last 3-4 months we’ve been paying around £230. We are also on a feed tracker contract with our packer so have seen our egg price increase while our feed price has been fixed. Certainly helped over the last 12 months!
we aren’t linked to any feed mill so can shop around for prices but we have used the same mill for nearly 15 years and would like to stay local.
£280 was what I’d got in mind, I think we will most likely stay on spot for the time being as I wouldn’t feel comfortable fixing while feed is historically quite high.Very lucky to have the feed tracker in place so we don’t need to take the risk.
