Can someone advise a good chemical for spraying out docs, nettles tansies and thistles. Using either a quad sprayer or knapsack sprayer.
Have used grazon90 but doesn't seem that reliable

I've heard that Pastor works quite well, but I wouldn't know as it's not legal to use it in a knapsack/quad sprayer.

It's a very similar active to Grazon, so I doubt it would be any more effective than that, but at least it wouldn't be wasting as much money. :)
Never heard that!! If that's the case dad never uses that for spot spraying or spraying around outside fields under electric fencing.

Forefront T is £150ish for 5litres or £30/acre. Does a brilliant job on all those weeds but beware of residues in muck on sensitive crops. 200ml in 10 litres is the way forward to keeps the cost in check. Last used about 6 years ago on some hedge bottom nettles. An odd one is now starting to come back, hence using it again.

I am sure you have made a mistake with the chemical name here ;);)

I did a bit of spot spraying with Grazon Pro a couple of weeks ago - docks look just the same as they did - perhaps a few curled leaves but not the effect I was hoping for! Very disappointed - does it take a long time to kill them? Used the recommended concentration, weather has been very variable since but they seem to be growing.

There's a far bit of paper work involved in getting Forefront, one declaration you have to sign is no muck must leave the holding

And no hay/silage to be taken from the field in that year, IIRC.

Tried a couple of fields last year at 1L/ha (1/2 rate) on advice & to keep cost reasonable, and it has cleared them up a bit, but still plenty of buttercups left to multiply up.:(

no a whiff of mcpa is deadly to thistles and docks and even a half dose is enough.the clover only gets a knock back but soon bounces back.

Hard on grass though which isn't good if you just want to stop the docks going to seed in late silage. Which is all MCPA is possibly good for IMO.

Also only top kill on nettles.
