Sprayer jets and water volumes

We have done most of our spraying with billericay bubble jets @100 ltrs /ha as it suited field size but we have just changed to a bigger sprayer with 5 way rotating nozzle holders but with only one set of nozzles fitted
What nozzles would you recommend and what rates are you using

I'd avoid the 3D 90 defy. We did some tests with water sensitive paper and they were by far the worst coverage of any nozzle we tested.
ASJ were the best. Lechlar IDTA were also good.

Interesting to hear.

I just have the standard version, not the 90. Whether it makes a difference between the two I don’t know.

025 Bubblejets for 100 l/ha
04 Bubblejets in angled caps for 200 l/ha pre em herbicides
04 ExRay XC for 90% drift reduction
04 Flat fans for when I really need a fine spray 200 l/ha

Well the 90 is supposed to be an improvement.
There seems to be an awful lot of marketing rubbish when it comes to spray nozzles. And ask any farmer which nozzles are the best and they will nearly always say the ones that are on their sprayer. But how many people have actually done a real life comparison non biased comparison?
It's time someone did a large scale fully independent test and publish it in the pro-operator magazine.

Partly. But that doesn't show the difference i deposition between straight down nozzles, angled nozzles for and aft/ all forward etc. It would be good to actually see the water sensitive paper for each test to really see the results.
True. There have been articles about this in Pro Operator though.

Are Angled caps a bit of a gimmick or do they make a difference

It does work, but be careful where you use them. In the autumn on small upright weeds or cloddy seedbeds, yes. On tall crop canopies, no.

Yes I'd trust Silsoe. Have they done a comparison test between all the different nozzles available?
Yes, years ago. It (the data) is owned by NIAB TAG now, so the information will be members only. IIRC the low drift nozzles were pre orifice, not air induction back then. Still useful as a benchmark.

Think a might just get a couple of sets of billericay bubble jets for 100ltr/ha and a set for 200ltr/ha like tw15 says
What pressure are you generally spraying at and what chemicals are you spray at the higher water rate
Is it beneficial to spray herbicides at 200ltr or is it reducing the spray concentration
