Sprayer

Looking at getting a small sprayer to go behind an MF135, looking at the 400l hardi 6M ones (around the 4 grand mark). They do a 12M 800l one for 6800, but thinking that may be a bit big for some of the small fields I might end up doing. Will be getting a bigger sprayer in a few years when I start doing the crop spraying side of it, this one will only be used for grassland (patches of thistles, docks, rushes etc) and horse paddock work as there are a lot of horses around me and I dont know of anyone aiming at that market. Can you shut the 12M hardi down to 6M and fold the booms up so it is basically a 6M with an 800l tank? And would a 135 cope with the 800l machine? Do also have a 575 it could go on (used to run an old 12M hardi, so I know that one will cope!) - but would rather leave the 135 on the sprayer and keep the 575 for other work.

And are there any other makes I ought to be looking at that make a small sprayer?

They fit on anything.
Being outside in chemical drift is another consideration.
Yes. Spray suit and a respirator will obviously be worn. That was partly why I liked the 135 for the job as it can be left on the sprayer, and can be washed out properly after use. Only thing Ive got with a good cab on it would be the maxxum, which is too big and heavy for the job at hand. 575 you'd never get a carbon filter for.

Was also thinking I might be able to use it for stubble treatment now we have a direct drill, so obviously wider booms and bigger tank would be helpful for that. Hence wandering if the 12M can be used as a 6M for tight fiddly fields

Just switch sections off possibly??

I would buy a Jarmet for your job, my 12m boom is in 5 sections so I would put a tap in the line at the fold over section at the middle of the side section and have a 7.2m width.

Is that on a jarmet? I like that they have a galvanised boom... should last better than the hardi painted one especially if i decide to put liquid fert through it too. I was thinking of something like putting a tap in line but it all depends how the boom unfolds, if you can actually unfold it part way without the rest of it getting in the way.
I'd say 800l is too heavy for 135.
Some sprays require a cab and it is a good idea to have a cab anyway when spraying
Which sprays are likely to require a cab? Surely most stuff on grassland is going to be designed to work with the small ATV type kit anyway?
As for weight, it is a slight worry. Dont have to fill the tank up all the way though. Not sure what the weight limit for a 135 with a few weights on the front would be
@Dave W

There are lots of good used ones for sale.
An MOT test might be rarer.
I'd rather buy new on this, I want something that is going to last a long time, most used sprayers are going to be sold for a reason, probably because all the rubber parts are perishing and need replacing or the pump is a bit dicky etc. I can afford to buy a new one so it makes sense. When looking at the 24m ones though, at 40 or 50 thousand new... second hand and renew pipes etc makes sense.

My jarmet has a centre section and two swing out side sections. Once you swing the side section out you then fold the outside half over to the working position. This is the bit I would isolate and just not fold out.

Sounds ideal
Your new one will be second hand the next day.
You still need to maintain 'new' sprayers. :(
yes but wont be as second hand as some...

I see that you want to use a fertilizer sprayer. Zinc does not like fertilizer. I had a galvanized sprayer to spread liquid nitrogen. It's better to look for an older sprayer painted with good paints, not new ones with eco-paint. I use 30-year-old Agrifac myself

I have a 1000L 12m hydraulic folding allman for sale. 5 shut off section's if your interested. In mot
Is it electric shutoff? Probably a bit big for the small stuff and a bit small for the big stuff really.. how much are you asking?

That’s probably a bit too far the other way, would take a fair while to do a field with glypho

That’s odd, I thought galv would be better as it doesn’t rust normally.. modern paint is as you say dreadful, flakes off in about 10 seconds. Can’t see how that’s more eco than just painting it properly and having it last a lot longer

I had a Sieger sprayer with galvanized lances. When using UAN, connections with zinc were visible. And the paints are probably specially made so that we have to buy new ones all the time
