Spraying fungicide and side effects

Guys, it’s that time of year again.

I’m at home today and started getting some nose and throat irritation. Looked outside and the boom is meters from my house...on a windy day and I’m down wind.

The bloke was racing through that field. Did it in minutes. Loads of drift. I’m guessing he didn’t set his boom low enough for the windy conditions.

There are some people that are breaking the rules I’m guessing and possibly wasting a lot of money to boot.

There was people about walking dogs too.

I know it needs to be done and done properly I’m okay with, but isn’t it illegal to land on my property or up my nose?

Have you thought about moving to inner city London where such things will not inconvenience you.

The Plant Protection Products (Sustainable Use) Regulations 2012 require that the application of plant protection products (PPP) must be confined to the land, crop, structure, material or other area to be treated. The spray must not drift outside the area of application.

Everyone who uses a PPP has a legal responsibility to ensure that all reasonable precautions are taken to protect the health of human beings, creatures and plants, to safeguard the environment and in particular, to avoid pollution of water.

Detailed guidance on applying pesticides is found in the Code of Practice for Using Plant Protection Products (PPP Code).

Everyone who uses a PPP has a legal responsibility to ensure that all reasonable precautions are taken to protect the health of human beings, creatures and plants, to safeguard the environment and in particular, to avoid pollution of water.

Advice on how users can meet their responsibilities under pesticide legislation is given in the PPP Code which is jointly produced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).

The status of the PPP Code as a statutory code of practice is such that whilst it is not in itself an offence not to follow the advice that it gives, failure to do so can be used as evidence of a breach of legislation.

Don't disagree with that but a lot of the issue is the smell of the solvents used, rather than the drift. You can smell Pendimethalin a long way away and it isn;t drift.

I was spraying Horus last week and found the smell of that travelled too - again I'm sure that's the oil carrier rather than the active itself as powdered version i.e. Atlantis, Pacifica etc aren't an issue.
