IF you base it on tgw of 50g a 2t/ac crop equates to 500g/sq/m or 10000 grains. If an average head has 20 grains you need 500 heads/sq m for a 2t/ac crop.
2t/ac = 10000grains/sq/m = 500 heads
2.5t/ac=12500grains/sq/m = 625 heads
3t/ac=15000grains/sq/m = 750 heads
all based on tgw 50g & before harvesting losses
Roguing some of ours today and doubt if it will do 1.5t/ac if it ever fills:cry:

Just did a count in one of our better fields of laureate, just over a 1000 heads/sqm but range from 12-22 grains per head,if they fill i will be delighted but with 24 degrees + wind things are going downhill fast.

Mine are all in the 750 to 850 range of what I'd call viable heads and average 21 grains per head. This excludes a fair bit of secondary growth that won't come to anything.Mostly four heads per plant with 18 to 22 grains and one or two spindly wee second growth. Very short in the straw, though.

Here’s some Irina today, our first time growing spring barley. How does this compare? I gave up counting as I didn’t know what not to include. There are quite big ears, but also some still emerging.
