25th April is the latest ive drilled, yielded 2t ac, mid September harvest, was a dry summer though.

Looking at the forecast for here, I'm struggling to see drilling conditions by the 25th of April!!!! One step forward here, ten back!

I once drove our old Allis Gleaner in frost in November to get in late beans. No cab

Late April sown last year. Harvested a low yield in mid September.

The added danger with later sowing is a heatwave of over 25 degrees that aborts the flowers meaning no pods.

When do people give up sowing beans? Hobson's Choice is making a loss on the low yield vs making a bigger loss from not cropping at all.

HSS Bean seed in the shed, land needs to be growing something, why spend more on a CC with no visible financial return apposed to a chance of getting a crop

Fair point. What's the gross margin on a 2.5 t/ha bean crop? £250/ha? Many SFI options have better gross margins but that requires the right agreement and flexibility in option areas.

I suppose there is the small benefit to the following crop to consider also. I admit though the weather/season just has so much sway on beans.

When the land owner says stop. For me that's early April, but I've been told to keep drilling in may before. To be fair, it was actually snowing while we were drilling. Bloody country.

How about drill beans, a few peas, vetch, clovers, claim SFI sub for legume fallow, spray off, combine end August / early Sept

Nothing to stop you banging another in. Just have to be careful with the max 50% drop at agreement level.
