When should such a mix be drilled?
Planning on trying some for the first time this year, spoke to the agronomist about it a couple of months back and thought the job was sorted.
When he rolled up here about 3 weeks ago, turned out it wasn’t. Ordered and still hasn’t rolled up, spray to burn the grass off turned up yesterday, and they want to deliver seed tomorrow.
My thoughts, it ought to have been in whilst the weather conditions were ideal 3 weeks ago.
Grass hasn’t been sprayed off yet so quite possibly a fortnight yet before it’s drilled…….peas and barley BYW.
Don’t know about the peas but from what I’ve seen of late spring barley it doesn’t grow bugger all and just when it will get drilled is a bit of an unknown ow it’s turned wet, would I be better knocking the job on the head and leaving it as grass, obviously as I was planning on ploughing it up it hasn’t had any Fert as yet but as the grass is only just getting going it’s not going to be bugger all behind anything else at the moment and I can slap some Fert on pretty much anytime.
Just worried that the wholecrop option at this stage is now going to leave me with less forage with more cost, far from ideal with less carryover from last year.
As for the agronomist, that’s another issue but this isn’t the first instance where I’m less than pleased with him so I think he’s on borrowed time but I need to make a decision on what to do about the wholecrop asap, all opinions gratefully received.
