Im converting a stepframe trailer to a bale trailer . I will keep air suspension and brakes. Does it need a sprung drawbar or will the air suspension take away the bounce?

Done two air spring draw bars now.
One with the air bag under the headboard.
The other with the air bags at the back of the draw bar.
The trailer with the air bag at the front was built in such a way so it would tip the front up to make loading a teleported safter.
The second had the air bags at the back, just to see if it could be done.
Both trailers do a lot of road work and made a big difference on a normal tractor, no difference found when behind the Fastrac.
Both trailers have load sensing , a must for the air bag setup.
I dont think there was much difference in cost between the air set up compared to the big leaf spring, I think the big spring was £280 at the time. Maybe the fab work was simpler on the air draw bar.

Sounds like a great way to do it. My question was would I need a sprung drawbar at all, when I have air suspension on the trailer,ir would a fixed drawbar be ok.

if you have a Fastrac you dont need a sprung draw bar.
If you you have a conventional tractor.eg, not sprung back axle you should have a sprung draw bar.
But if you are slow towing it, you have a light weight tractor or if you are doing very small mileage, then dont bother.

First 3 photos are of the low loader trailer set up.
Last photo is of the flat bed trailer.
