What are people’s views on the ssangyong rexton or musso? Prices for everything are getting ridiculous and choices for towing 3.5t are getting limited. Currently running a 3.2 ford ranger which I’ve been more than happy with but getting towards 90k and 4 years old so looking at changing it

Capable enough trucks, just a bit marmite.
They are not much cheaper than the supposed 'popular' brands though seem better spec'd
Warranty is a deal maker for many.

My Musso Rebel is 4 years old, has done 45,000 miles and is still a good truck, it had the 7 year guarantee and is due in on Tuesday for new joints on the steering underneath. I have no complaints as the dealership service is very good. My daughter runs a AWD Korando(The old version on a 16 plate) and wife a 68 plate Korando AWD. They are both fabulous cars and I can not understand why they changed them to 2wd. If you are in Lincs. you may see a racing version of a Musso in Revesby Park next weekend tackling a rally stage.!!

I’ve had my Musso Saracen for 12 months now and been very happy with it. Very capable towing vehicle and extremely comfortable on the odd long trip.
A few on the Facebook ‘owners forums’ seem to have issues that the dealers have taken a while to sort, but mostly on the older models I think.
The new model (Q261) Saracen Plus, the longer bed version, is apparently a very lumpy ride on account of uprated springs on the back, but mine (shorter bed) is good.

I did have an experience last weekend though, which has never happened before. I was towing a full trailer up a long, steep hill and I lost power 3/4 of the way up, with the revs dropping to idle and refusing to shift. After about a minute, it would rev happily again and away I went, albeit with the fan running flat out for the next 5 minutes (temp gauge hadn’t gone up at all).
I was in high range, on a long, steep hill and may have been a tad overweight, so maybe should have been in lo and overdid it? Been ok since anyway.🤷‍♂️
Very odd, and I will make enquiries when she goes in for her first service next week.

Mine has a five year warranty and not concerned about depreciation as intend keeping her long term.
She’s a lot of truck for the money and a good bit cheaper than other trucks with similar spec. Whether much of that spec is required is a different matter though. I can’t see the heated rear leather seats being much use in keeping my back seat cr*p/tools warm for example.🤔

I would have another, and will likely be looking at a Rexton as well, when my wife’s Audi Q5 dies.

They are gaining popularity hereabouts due to the value and having two good dealers, one in Llanybyther and the other at Llandidoch [St Dogmaels] serving the area well.

Our land agent who runs a very successful business, is on his second Rexton and really rates them

There’s a few getting round here suddenly too, since JT Hughes started selling them when Mitzi pulled out of Europe. :(
They have taken Isuzu on too, but several £k difference in the price if similarly specc’ed and factory remapped to get the power near the same.

I suspect that diesel medium size pickups such as these, will be severely rationed, kept in very short supply from next year onwards. This would be to have manufacturers/importers meet the Government demands that at least 20% of their sales be of zero emission vehicles, which normally means 100% electric, not even hybrid as the rules currently stand. If they don’t manage to hit the target then ALL their vehicles sold in the previous year will have a £15,000 [I think] tax imposed on them.

A revolution of sorts is almost called for. :nailbiting: :devil:

Had the same experience with our range rover sport towing our aussie caravan up along steep hill overtaking a roadtrain ,then all of a sudden went into limp mode,
It turned out to be the oil heat sense in the gearbox
the oil got to hot and shut the vehicle down.

You may have the same problem, so just look into it. Ask the question.

Which is why I’m wondering whether manufacturers are keeping the price of new ICE vehicles artificially high to try and steer customers towards EVs.

Ssangyong/KGM do have an ev offering in the Korando (which also looks well specc'ed at a reasonable price), so they might hit that target. Toyota and Ford, you would think, would reach it fairly easily too.

Isuzu might struggle a bit more...
