Do you like the other contractors in your area? If you dont, then undercut them by a fair way the first year or two to get your foot in the door, do as good a job as them if not better if you can, then raise the prices up to what they charge. Just be aware that if you do that you will really pee off any contractors round you...
Yeh Undercut them all and work 365 days a years and wear your machines out then you'll be back to square one when something big goes bang.... Way to go. Good luck with that theoryDo a search on here and read the seemingly endless pages of this topic.
I dislike this mentality. Aren’t we meant to all get on with each other, support one another and work together for the common good in agriculture? I know it’s an idealistic view but surely should be the aim when starting out? At a time of such uncertainty and volatility within our industry I cannot see how your advice to intentionally jeopardise that is in good taste.
Undercutting will attract all the bad, slow and non payers, whilst simultaneously classifying yourself as ‘the cheap’ one.
I would go so far to say that ‘undercutting prices’ is a game where no one wins.
I'm not sure that is a great strategy, our neighbour did that , inherited money bought a pile of kit , peed off the local contractors , undercut, called with their customers. Picked up all the rough jobs , the bad payers too . Lasted 3/4 years.Do you like the other contractors in your area?
