Well I guess it’s time to start another annual thread about how peoples crops are looking at the start of the year.

All pics taken today.

Generally I’m pretty happy at present other than one but of rape that looks a bit thin in places thanks mainly to pheasants🙄

The fields where the straw was removed are much better. Wheat after grass is saddest. Barley where the stubble caught fire is twice the crop of the bit with chopped straw.
Is that not the same as every year either you or I have been involved in growing crops, same here for the last 38 years ,potash is undervalued !!

This year is worse. Big straw yields chopped in, and non-plouged grass. Looked ace until November rains, and you can see everywhere there are chopped straw overlaps etc. Decaying straw yuk. But at the time straw was worthless. But after grass is nastiest - but then it usually seems to be with decaying thatch, and just really hungry soil after last year.

Makes you wonder if RB209 is incorrect by saying autumn sown crops require zero N.

Doubting myself now. Does it say there's a requirement after chopped straw? Not sure.

Edit. Maybe it's not all N related. Maybe it's the rotting straw/grass poison.

Sadly teslacoils straw is still worthless but did this week get 500tons into power station of 2021 harvest stuff. What has amazed me is not a single bale broken by varmint action been in barn 17 months. I have made more loading out than storing it.
