I've done work converting steel agricultural sheds to dwellings before which I guess is a similar principle. Search "Class Q" on google for some examples. Any good?

We've had dealings with steel frames for houses. Just make sure whoever makes/ erects the frame is singing off the same hymn sheet for tolerance for housebuilding compared to shed building.

Fixing timber involves LOTS of self tappers.

Sussing a DPC around steel legs is great fun too.

Out of interest why steel? If it's just for vaulted ceilings I would just go block/timber frame and just have steel for the ridge beam

My neighbour, who is a steel erector with a 3 acre farm (but no crops or livestock:rolleyes: ), built his 5 bedroom house using steel framework.

Sorry, can't tell you more than this as we don't talk and I doubt he can tell the truth anyway!

I've been saying for a year or 3 that I'd like to do one more house and the last one would be steel frame. ;)

I have two ideas of the basic design, one would be using an external skeleton, possibly galv steel I beams, and the building essentially all inside the exoskeleton, but fixed to the frame, second was to build a steel industrial building, a simple portal frame structure and then erect a lightweight residential structure inside the building.

I look forward to seeing if the OP gets his ideas off the drawing board and into something.... more tangible(y)
