Stoves

It is without planning / building authority or HETAS signing off , I dont expect you to believe me so call your local planning / building officer/inspector...the you`ll see what an ignorant faukwit you are ,I guess very village has to have one.

It boils down to doing it two ways of doing it .

  • Install it yourself BUT you have to involve your local planner/building inspector - expensive -often several visits.
  • Use a HETAS engineer , they are the only ones who can sign it off other than your local planner/building inspector .not quite as expensive
Alternatively join the "I know best mob" like the farmer who just got 4.5 years jail or the other one who was fined £32k , your choice.

I owned a heating company a few years back and looked into every way possible to legally install woodburners without having to employ HETAS fitters.

Also worth noting DIY fitted stoves rarely have warranty.

Again you are talking total shite - I checked with the manufacturer and building regs before I did the job - again you are spouting absolute shite. If you can’t get it right don’t bother posting you are just embarrassing yourself now

It's the problem with inglenook fire places , all the heat goes up chimney .

PS ypur choice of beverage is worse :yuck:
Assuming theres a register plate fitted make sure theres insulation above it , the most common reason stoves lose efficiency is the seals , fit new rope seals on all doors and glass and it should be as good as new , burnt out and warped baffle plates also cause them to eat masses of fuel with little heat.

It's a false ingnook I have twinwall flue going out the back but you're right all the heat stays in there and if I sit in the inglenook it's like a sauna. Tempted to take it down. I would put a fan but the hoods a problem. [emoji23][emoji23]peroni flys down that's my only problem lovely on a Friday night.

Mine in living room never had a baffle
I fabed something last winter from about 3 x6 channel
Also put gaskets on doors and glass
Difference in performance is un believable
Uses way less fuel easily double heat output. And it thew out loads b4 .
Utube was my friend for inspiration

Interesting to me at least, no sign at all of degradation of baffle yet . Its been used abit , prob several months, only lit in evenings tbf but i was concerned a standard piece of channel would quickly burn thru , still looks as fitted .
I know baffes are supposed to burn thru ??

Well, my stove was made by a well known company and was installed by myself (with the full approval of the local building inspector) but the flue was connected by an (allegedly) HETAS certified installer. It has been moderately successful except that it smokes. Very very badly in a strong wind. There's currently a 25mph wind blowing and to avoid being smoked like a kipper, I have had to have all the windows open. It smokes in conditions like this whether the vents are opened or closed and after the flue has warmed up.

So what's the answer? The chimney was swept the other day, the draught tested as satisfacory, and the stove has been smoke tested -- all apparently satisfactory.

It has a cowel but I suspect I need a special one to prevent down draught? But where can I get qualified advice (which probably means not local)? I am in the Scottish Highlands.

One of my stoves ,flus used to smoke
Its not fun
Local to me ive dealt with is miflu , blackpool , sell steel liners , stoves ...
And heat resistant glass co. Poulton blackpool , if nigle is still there he seamed knowledgeable.
I see a drawing flu as a living beasty . It will , should always pull a bit once built. If built correctly.
