Stress project!

Hello all,
I have a new University of Aberdeen research project for you all to take part in :) This time we want to learn more about how farmers think about, and deal with, stress. This study is part of an undergraduate thesis project and is composed of an online survey which will ask you questions about stress, get you to assess some scenarios to decide if the person is stressed (or not) and fill in two short scales on help seeking and self confidence. The whole thing should take a maximum of 20minutes (depending on how much, and how fast, you type). The survey is completely anonymous so you won't be asked for your name or location. We are looking ofr farmers, farm workers and contractors to take part from the UK and Ireland.

I would be very grateful if as many of you as possible could take part in the survey - both because stress is a serious issue in farming which we need to know more about, and also to help and support my student in his research!

To take part click on one of the below links which will take you to further information and the survey (the surveys are the same, just with the order of scenarios altered to balance presentation):

If you were born between January and June please click this link: http://viis.abdn.ac.uk/snapwebhost/s.asp?k=157123916502

If you were born between July and December please click this link: http://viis.abdn.ac.uk/snapwebhost/s.asp?k=157123918461

Thanks in advance for any and all help - feel free to share the links widely :) Amy

Will know were my stress levels will be after October 31st

Will either be fudgeed (normal) or totally fudgeed (Borised)

I know, stressful times - partly why this survey is so relevant just now.
We have our first 5 participants now, thanks so much, we are aiming for 100 so please keep those responses coming!

Grr did most of it then my connection went down and sorry i don't want to do it again as I had got so far! Forgot to add RURAL BROADBAND to list of stressors!!:mad:
Managed to get it back but will confess got a bit bored with the last couple of scenarios so skipped. One important point - which is really a separate study - the stress of a farmer's wife can be different from the stress of a farmer for a whole host of reasons!

Done. Made me realise that nothing relieves stress quite like the removal of the thing or issue causing the stress. If somebody had a nail stuck in their foot you wouldn't just keep giving them painkillers you would get the nail out to allow the wound to heal.

So often with mental health you see somebody grappling with something that is overwhelming them or running them down and everybody says they need counselling or to see a psychologist or do some yoga or something. Well, maybe, but number one priority could be to stop doing whatever it is that causes the stress or make changes to your life to reduce the stress.

You see it with unhappy marriages in particular. Counselling, relate and all that. No, get divorced.

You see it with rubbish jobs with rubbish employers that don't value people and overload them. Go work somewhere else.

You see it with farmers battling on against the odds. Sell the bloody place, let it or whatever.

No amount of therapy or medication compensates for not taking decisive action to resolve things that are a more or less permanent PITA.

There is nothing wrong with taking the easier route. Nothing wrong at all.

You’re right,it’s about decisiveness and dealing with things and putting them to bed.

life at times is like having hot irons in the fire, you take one out however it gets replaced and eventually you end up with too many irons in the fire.

Its being able to get them out without being burnt!

Part of this study is exploring the wide and varied responses to stress - which I expect will include lots of practical advice and actions. Thanks very much for taking part, I look forward to seeing the range of stress management suggestions from you and everyone!
