I'm sitting down. Frighten me with some prices!

They start off expensive....

But you can buy them cheaper....

Or if you're feeling very flush, forget the 4-mix....

I'm sure @B&B Pig Man will be able to do much sharper prices for TFF members than FR Jones though! ;)

Honestly I wouldn't go for a 4-mix Stihl. I've got one (admittedly on a pole saw) and the proper 2-stroke version on my FS460 is a much better engine - better starting, smoother, more power.

If your desire is a little 4-stroke then get a sump lube Honda mini GX25 or GX35 engine - I've run various on strimmers since they were first introduced about 18 years ago. They are a brilliant little engine.

You might not be able to get any 6ah batteries .Makita have had some problems with them and have stopped importing them into the UK ,folkestone fixing used to stock them but they cant get them now
Hmm... a pity, I've been using 5AH in chainsaws and the strimmer and they are very good; I was hoping the 6AH batt's would be even better. What was wrong?

Something with the cells not holding the charge long enough and shipping them ,over a certain power rating they are classed as explosive ,,im on the fb makita page and loads of folks have been asking where the 6ah have got to

I've just gone for the Makita dur365uz, 36V battery one. Got fed up with the 2-stroke stihl.
Takes 2 of their standard batteries which i already use for 3 cordless tools.
Looking forward to it always working, the quietness, the balance (motor in head)
I'll report back :)

Reporting back.

Quite enjoyable to use. When on wire, it's not a bad tool and almost no vibration. Still wear ear defenders but for short stints don't have to. In fact for 5-10 minutes I didn't even use a harness.
Stumped up on 5ah batteries and a twin charger this week. Bloody brilliant after my 6 year old 3ah ones. Also put a tri-blade on and just obliterated a lot of thistles. Love love love not faffing with fuel. Can carry it how I like without petrol leaking everywhere. No trouble starting. It has an electric brake so the blade stops reasonably quickly.

I love mine ( I am on my second) but l agree they are like "Marmite", you love them or loathe them.

Got a fr131 on order...... I do like marmite so hopefully I'll like the backpack strimmer

I've got a proper cheap Chinese backpack strimmer with various attachments and the idea is pretty sound, just that particular strimmer is proper badly made.

Previous to that had a big 50cc normal style strimmer, I prefer the backpack

First thing I notice.....and was hoping for :sneaky:..... that the flexi drive is square on the end.......my box of Ryobi and eckman strimmer tools are square drive

Bingo! The Ryobi tools fit straight in.....just the retaining tab needs some "adjustment"

Eckman tools need 0.5mm lathed off the outside of the shafts then should fit!

Enjoy! ( I am sure that you will) One thing l have noticed about Stihl stuff is that after winter storage you pick the thing up pull the rope and it STARTS.
