Stub wall heights under jourdain sl yolks.

Hi. Looking for comments on stub wall heights under self locking feed barrier yolks. There's a text book figure of 1.7m from floor to underside of top feed rail. Which is a guide.

I haven't got any big cows in my herd just wondered what folks think is ideal or works for them.

Thankyou

we tore out an old box section yolk a few years ago and fitted jourdain, was told to make the wall 600mm then fit the yolks 100mm clear of the wall but that was far too low and the cattle werent locking the yolks
we now have then 1mtr from the floor and works a lot better, after the 4 th or 5 th bedding there perfect
but ours has a raised feed pass, there not eating at floor level

Our Jourdain barriers are 21" (533mm) from floor to the bottom of the bottom rail. They'd be big cows eating off floor level and they lock properly. The top rail is sloped forward which makes it easier for the cows.

I use a 500mm panel leave 20mm gap under the bottom tube and the tube is 60mm this seems to work fine, you will need a bracket in the middle to stop them flexing particularly on 20 ft sections, If you need anymore yokes give me a shout

Hi

Many thanks. I should have enough for my main shed. Might get some heifer barriers next year on phase 2..

The barriers came with the reinforcing leg half way along the "panel" so this should be sufficient?

Thankyou. Our cows could never be described as big. We intend to raise feed floor by 100 and keep the barrier vertical. I assume this is for dairy stock without horns?

do you folks with yolks use them for routine vet activities/ tb testing? we are on 60 day testing so i am hoping to cut testing time and stress significantly.
use them for everything here less stress on man and beast,If you are preg checking them put a pin through the holes that line up along the top bar so they can not be rattled and release them selves

That is great . Our feed passage floor is going to be 100 mm higher also. Is this for black and white fresian type dairy cows?
Dolly mixture sucklers, smallest will be 450 to 500kg , largest 850ish. Tending towards 600kg ish. Our barriers have 100mm slope, should have more but very tight for space.
We pd, tag , tb test and vaccinate in them and use them to restrain the cows when dehorning calves or putting them on for a sook etc. Our cows never go in a crush.

That leg is for casting in a shuttered wall,A saddle bracket that goes over the panel with a stop welded to it will do the trick, Leave a gap between top of wall and bottom tube of yokes so you can adjust the neck bar if need to

I would recommend cranking them over abit. So much easier on the barriers and the cattle.
