What variety you growing ? Does planting this early make much difference to variety choice?
That's all trial plots
Seed rates and varieties
Nealry 20 plots
Stubbles are Samson Marco Frisia and White Star
Those that have used White Star say it's better than anything for Frost , yield is less but higher dry matter .
It's to early for later winter use though on stubble turnips

Samson at 1.25 kg acre and Samson at 2 kg acre

The plot I like has Samson and 30% swedes
I've no idea how it will turn out other that an old guy telling me that Turnips and Swedes don't like each other

dd some forage rape into our sprayed off clover trial patches from last year, up in 7 days.
last ploughed 1996, plenty of moisture under the cover crop of docks, trefoil and alsike, the only two that came back in year 2, the others were annuals, said to self seed, they didn't.

Alsike and Trefoil both came back strongly, and we are going to over seed some poorer leys with r/clover and alsike this autumn.
