Suggestions of how to fit some gates to a field / yard...

Hello,

I would like to take away a 12ft gate fitting in its place 2 x 8ft gates with a removable centre post.

The gate is access to my field / yard and will be in fairly regular use...

What I would like is one centre post, up to which both gates close, where one is easily opened to drive through with a little tractor, truck etc, but another that will be used less often for larger stuff to gain access after removing a centre post...

Has anyone any clever ideas, suggestions, photos etc of a method of securely closing and locking both gates, without having to unlock both each time we have to go through only one?

:)

We have the odd set up like that, all we have is a spring bolt on each gate into a slotted hole on the post to allow for slight sagging or such, if you want to make it lockable just have a plate on the spring bolt so it can be padlocked closed

Is this a trick question? Why can't you just put a chain round both Gate's with one pad lock? Failing that look up zed lock to replace the bolt.
Edit. Centre posts and sleeves are commonly available.

if you've got stock on one side and going through it regularly why not make a swinging electrified gate for one side? Easier to do for 8 foot. Tall pivot post with wire attached 1/3 along gate and a lifting gate pivot for a lightweight bar/gate with a live wire along it. Could have hanging wires for calves/smaller cattle.

Would like to see it in the bodgers thread!

Wouldn't bother with a centre post.
Put one of these on the latch end of the gate that will be opened the least to support some of the weight

Pft just go the whole hog and put 3x18 footers in [emoji1303] the whole thing opens out for 55' gap for wagons and the harvest kit or can just have any single 18' gap or a pair for a 36' gap, as for locking you can use bolt catches that can be padlocked individually or just wrap a chain around the post and gates with a lock on

Are those 18 ft gates "off the shelf" or have you made them?

Fit a 12 and a 4. You can walk through the 4etc and nearly all vehicles will fit through the 12 with ease then when you get bigger vehicles needing access open both. We done this with a few now, ideal at silage time etc. Open both gates.

we went with a 10 and a 4 for our main entrance, for the same logic. mostly just use the 10 but opens out for everyone else's bigger tractors and 8 wheelers
