The 5" does a good job of compensating for the wide row width by placing the seed in a band rather than a row. We have used the 1" coulter for beans and OSR with some success (beans struggled last year with being wet at drilling then very dry throughout the spring afterwards, OSR it was more difficult to keep the seed shallow enough) though we did almost wear a set out on 50 acres of gravelly land which was a bit ££. I think for cereals you would be pushing the very limits of what a crop can tiller out and compensate for given the wide rows if you were to say drill with the (I think) 2.5" coulter. The 1" coulter wth the ripper leg not ridiculously deep does give very minimal disturbance though!Running a 3m DTS with 5inch paired Dutch openers on medium land.
I’m keen to reduce disturbance and wondered if anyone has changed to a narrower Dutch opener?
Any help much appreciated, I know there are a few dts operators on here!
