Evening,

Has anyone tried to use the DTS with the rear press wheels folded back? Am having real problems in these wet sticky conditions with the wheels just filling up. Conditions otherwise are ok.

(yes i know the easy answer is stop drilling!)

I've only got a 3m machine and you cant fold the wheels back on that so cant really comment much but aren't the press wheels part of the depth control. Lift them up and it will put the seed in to deep? The press wheels need scrapers but that's quite a bit of fabrication. In really wet conditions any drill with press wheels isn't ideal. Might be worth trying to find a tine drill to borrow instead.

Just put much less pressure on them and try to trawel bit faster if You still realy ar sick with idea to keep going.

We always stop drilling if clay start build up on wheels.

We tried removing every other press wheel which did work until we have another 25mm of rain. Now they are all off and the covering discs are tied up out of the way. It was an experiment but seems to work. I would not want to drill cereals like it but it’s working ok for beans. It seems that the two large lift rams are fully extended when the drill is in work so doesn’t require much shallowing once the press wheels are off.
