its not good just happy folks need to eat most of what were producing even tho the inputs are getting silly dearCountrys fecked
You are not alone in that viewpoint....Countrys fecked
Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy scepticism.
I don't mind people knowing my soil carbon and I don't mind getting advice on how to improve it, which is some of what elms or the SFI seem to be about.
At the end of the day it's still my farm. If some practices are outlawed in the interests of the environment, I'm happy to go along with it
I fully expect that to happen. I don't farm by copying what's happening over the hedge. The 'science' and Defra are both continually changing stories..
What if the practices which are outlawed are actually counter-productive and reduce your income?
And wouldn't you find it a little irksome to know that a neighbour who had never shown any regard to the environment was being paid handsomely due to having 'degraded' their soils?

High SOC soils produce bumper yields.. fact... but how do we get there without going bust in the meantime as it can take 20yrs to restore SOC and SOMI'm not sure it's got anything to do with copying anyone else. It's about trying to balance our circumstances with regard caring for our farm and remaining 'in business'.
If Defra decide on some stupid rules limiting stocking of high SOC soils to 'protect' them, it would be detrimental in every way. I'm quite astounded that you can be so relaxed about such a possibility.
What I meant was, my neighbour depleting his soil or otherwise, does not influence my farming policy. As I said, I fully expect to be rewarded less by the taxpayer for not having depleted my soils.I'm not sure it's got anything to do with copying anyone else. I'd say that whether we admit it or not most farmers ultimate aim is to leave their farm in a better state than when they first got it whatever our idiotic governments do, if that's not a good thing I don't know what is.What I meant was, my neighbour depleting his soil or otherwise, does not influence my farming policy. I only really have two main aims with my farm, make a living and improve my soil, the idea being that both these aims help one another.
There are easier ways to make a living. If it was all about the money I wouldn't be doing it.

This is where human rights get you.its not good just happy folks need to eat most of what were producing even tho the inputs are getting silly dear
Is there no one in Gov prepared to stop these boats coming over the channel where is our forces ??? chase them back over
(Sorry were Full) some of the tales about them being pushed over to do drug dealing here is shocking.
If you read Farmers Weekly this weekend you would see that @Janet Hughes Defra completely ignored our feedback
Well we must remain optimistic that things will change for the better.I had hoped and expected ELMS/ SFI would promote this.
I just think it should be noted that there is currently a very high risk it will make both impossible.
{if your soils are already good}
Define “better”.I'd say that whether we admit it or not most farmers ultimate aim is to leave their farm in a better state than when they first got it whatever our idiotic governments do, if that's not a good thing I don't know what is.
I'd say a farmers better is all that really maters, fly by night eco nuts with at best a small back garden are simply living in fairy tale land!Define “better”.
One person’s better is another persons wrecked….
