Steevo this is common now a days with 7 i personally think MS are making 7 harder to use to force people to migrate to 10! there is ways around this i worked out its a little long winded but i found it worked everytime:

IF you are having issue with Windows updates do the following (08 March 2016)

Install the SP1 if its not already installed which it should be?

Then install the 2nd file called ( Windows6.1-KB3138612-x86-1 )

Then install the 3rd file called ( Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x86 )

REBOOT!!!!!

All the instructions are on these two pages:

When you face the svchost high cpu usage then its mostly the viruses that are a culprit here. Scan your computer for malwares and viruses, and incase that's all clear then try updating the Update Client on your PC and it would be much better if you would download and install all the windows updates

Although on some occasions, it could be a virus, the svchost high cpu usage problem is usually down to MS. The general consensus is that older versions of Windows have to search through the entire MS database of updates, looking for it's own updates. This causes the Windows Update components to slow the entire system. MS don't seem to keen on fixing the problem, causing many to believe that MS may be using the problem to push users of Windows 7, 8, 8.1 to upgrade to Windows 10.
One work around I found was to download the updates manually via a 3rd party downloader and then install them manually. And then disable Windows Update.
