I have a veritable smorgasbord of fat balls, meal-worms, peanuts and seed. I find that the birds tend to prefer the 'finches favourite' seed mix although the goldfinches have increased to 12 bully the sparrows and chuck the stuff they don't like on the ground gorgeous little birds but wasteful little f**kers too:mad:. Need to make up a mix myself I think will have a closer look at what they're chucking out, sparrows and mrs blackbird do their best to tidy things but it gets away from them.

Thanks for that, I would hazard a guess that it may be wheat they are chucking, I have a beautiful wheat patch under the feeder ( must phone Warburtons ). I had 3 Goldfinches in the yard yesterday eating cat food! I did have a Woodpecker, but haven't seen him for a while, probably making baby woodpeckers.

First pair of swallows arrived here yesterday (Welsh borders). I was very relieved to see them, they're a bit late this year.

Now mopping up the maggies so the swallows can have a less stressful nesting season and fledge more young 'uns. :)
