Swallows 2023

Not seen one here yet but it was nice to hear a skylark this morning when I was gathering sheep in the drizzle.

A friend of mine seen some down helston way yesterday, not seen any here in SE Cornwall yet

Well I have never ever seen Swallows here this early - these piccies were taken last Monday - 13th March. Really pleased to see them back.

Astonished by that, we are in South West Wales and would, typically, expect to see them about a month after that; my guess is that this has to be a quite remarkable outlier or... one that chose and actually managed to survive the Winter over here. I suppose that if he had somewhere warm to roost and there were sufficient insects around it would be possible. Lots of warm water would be needed for the bugs to be around, Wylfa?

Nothing here, normally 1st week in April, last year it was the 1st and year before the 6th

1st pair I've seen this year, flying around the cows. Poor sods got the weather wrong today, slight frost this morning.

Saw my first this morning at a customer the other side of the village. Saw two red kites buzzing a pair of buzzards here, lots of buzzards but never seen a red kite here before

yes saw some yesterday , top of mendips (holcombe way)buzzing me as i picked up fences on a volunteer field , stayed with me best part of morning till it rained

OH says told me yesterday to leave the garage door open as the swallows are here

Saw first pair here today. Four or five days earlier than average. Summers just round the corner!!

Saw the first one last night on the last lambing round before dark.

He was about 4' off the ground and wearing a woolie jumper - there was a very cold stiff breeze.

Usually see one by sister in law's birthday (19th).
