Few things make the spirits soar after a long winter than the sighting of the 1st swallow of the year and our first one arrived here on 1st April. OH didn't believe me but he couldn't deny the two swooping around the house this afternoon. Chiffchaffs are also well and truly in but yet to hear any Blackcaps or Willow warblers.

Heard the cuckoo this morning.
I envy you! We used to hear Cuckoos here every year but none heard here for I should think a good 10 years now. I really miss the Curlew we used to have nearby as well. Lovely though their song is, it just cant compare to a Curlew on moorland rather than on an estuary. Its so haunting somehow standing in a field with just a breeze and the curlew song for company.
