T4

Okay some idiot has got to do it ,,,,,,,,,,,,, :)

So a well timed T3 went on my wheats , mainly group 1 , between the 3rd and 6th of June
30 % had Teb .75. + Mancozeb 1.5
The other 70% had Proline + Teb ( rate not to hand)

With a damp humid outlook for the next couple of weeks it's fair to say I'm a tad nervous after a catastrophic 2012 , I also realise that it's to late for a T3 but was wondering in my instance is it feasible to bring forwards protein spray by a week and can ? or do I put a splash of something in to keep disease at bay ,
All of you on here would say I've spent to much on my wheats all ready fungicide wise but on the flip side I'm very happy with what I have in the fields

Go on then rip me to pieces :)

Complete waste of time and money, although it will make you feel better.

2012, T4's gave zero response, I know, I did plenty.

But was that after a well timed T3
I know of someone who reckoned his T4 was the best paying spray of the year

I know that fungicide spend has come to a end but I just felt someone had to ask the question ,,,,,, it's the only way we learn

I have just done a T4, for exactly this reason. My T3 went on perfectly and then had 115mm of rain, so for the last 2 days i have done a T4 Interestingly in 2012 it paid me well doing T4.

I have wondered the same thing after suffering catastrophic low yields in 2012. @Fromebridge has convinced me to keep the money in my pocket ........ but i am still very concerned.

20+ years ago we were always doing tramline trials and found that T3 always left a margin over input cost and in a damp year a very good one.
A T4 always paid for itself and left a good margin in a difficult year. That was on this farm in the normally wetter west whereas the general advice based on trials in the drier east was that it wasn’t worth while. Of course triazoles had more curative activity than so the benefits might not be so much.
Plenty of flowering still going on here and we have only just done T3 this week with teb, ptz, az and phorce (not originally planned).
If it was me Mr Charisma I would be going through with some az as it’s milling wheat with some teb if still flowering and try some phorce(phosphite) in places to see if it helps with fusarium.
Tin hat on as they say!

Mark,
Have you got serviced agronomy?

Forecast is looking increasingly settled. I wouldn't bother with a T4 for septoria. T3 will give control, then its a long latent period before disease gets in and starts destroying GLA. Brown rust is a differnert issue.

Mark,
Have you got serviced agronomy?

I have one block of land on serviced and one paying by the acre .
The serviced one is an excellent agronomist and I would be very loathed to see him go and to be honest I have one or two independent guys in the vicinity who have made a complete hash of things partly by trying to save to many pennies to try and prove a point ,
what cost can you put on a very clean block of land that is surrounded by a sea of BG

By the way neither of my agronomists have talked about T4 , this is just me mulling things over

Different forecast to what I’ve seen , we will have a dry humid weekend followed by another breakdown in the weather next week and running into July

On our farm the disease pressure is very different this year compared to the disastrous 2012. This year leaf 1, 2, 3, and 4 are clean. In 2012 leaf 2 tip had septoria showing, and rubbing against newly emerged flag. Leaf 3 and below completely dead and fusarium everywhere. We tried a T4 in 2012 but it was a case of shutting the gate after the horse had bolted. I am not planning a T4 this year, at the moment. We are in wet west Herefordshire, so I remain vigilant!

You can do phosphite much cheaper than paying through the nose for Phorce

Lots of talk of it being like 2012, I asked my father about this (I had only just come back in 2012 so didn’t really know anything about disease) and he said by this stage there was only a flag leaf left! This year it’s all clean. We did a t4 that year and it didn’t do anything.
A well times t3 of teb and az should be enough for us, we have had less rain here and the forecast now looks excellent for building yield.
