Taxing a tractor.

Have just come across a tractor that has been on the farm for 19 years that has never been taxed, it’s the only machine which goes on the road without one, we have never had a reminder for it,this is why I think it has sort of slipped the net.I only found out when checking the due dates of the other machines on the DVLA website. When I entered the reg no off this tractor to check the tax due date it said they may investigate why it hasn’t been Taxed. Will I not pass go,not collect £200,and go straight to jail if I tell them why it hasn’t been taxed. We have the log book in our name and it hasn’t been SORN.

I had a similar thing with an old fork lift a couple of years ago
Said it had been on the farm it’s whole life and never been on the road
Taxed no problem
It’s zero tax anyway so they haven’t missed out on any cash

The OP has said that it has never been sorned, perhaps it should have been. Don't the DVLA levy a fine for not doing it? I seem to remember that it's only vehicles that have not been taxed since before about 1998 (?) that don't have to be either taxed or sorned.

If the DVLA chased up everybody with an untaxed vehicle they would not have time for a cup of tea in the next 20 years.
Instead far simpler to let any honest person fess up and be fined £100.
Far cushier than chase half the chavs in the UK
