Does anyone know what vets are paid per head for testing. Getting fedup with the practice sending numpties out to do my test.
No, 80p to test and 80p to read
that's for the yearly testCall out?
If you get the vet I had it wont take long he is fastMy vets based 10 mins from me (Ely area) have just sent a letter saying for various reasons they are no longer working with the people that organise TB tests in their area (eastern counties) and the gist of it is its not financially viable for them...they will still do it privately however.
I've now got another letter saying my next TB test will be done by a vet from Norwich!! Which doesn't seem very financially viable for them either lol.
Apparently XL vets are working along the lines of tendering as low as possible and then charging farmers to make up the shortfall.
For the ministry, vets are paid on a sliding scale. X for up to 5 cattle, Y for 20, Z for 50 and then upwards.
When testing was tendered for, England's XL vets dropped their price to Defra by about 30 per cent, to keep another big practice out. (or so I'm told) Wales got their heads together and their price remained about the same and Scotland got 30 per cent more.
For private testing all vets seem to have different prices and it depends on the call out fee too. Two visits plus so much per head is what our vets charge.
They too are struggling with the new system, and all the extra paperwork which falls to them as well. Pay peanuts, get monkeys?
Good luck with that one.
This needs to cover traveling and cost associated with that and administration and holidays and all other cost that has to be covered for an employeeXL vets are about to re tender at an even lower rate than they currently are contracted to do, most vets are now paying lay people to do the testing as they cant afford to have a fully qualified vet doing Tb testing and only earning £40/50 an hour which is quite understandable.

We get paid:
Instruction Fee (no head included) £52.00
Per Head 1 – 10 £1.00
Per Head 11 – 100 £2.25
Per Head 101 – 200 £2.00
Per Head 201-300 £1.90
Per Head 301-400 £1.80
Per Head Thereafter £1.75
That's for the testing on the 2 days, all the admin both in arranging the test, booking onto the system (takes hours per week), auditing etc.
Some vets are already charging, one I heard of charges if you don't do 60 cattle/ hour on the first day and 90 hr on the second day.
