tb. Reactor

We used to keep cattle and had no problems with tb testing at all
But yesterday we helped someone to test his cattle and there was a reactor, the lump measured 14mm and the vet's chart went up to 10mm so he said that is definitely positive
So he will have another test in 60 days which will be around new year so does it have to be
60 days ?

My condolences.
Between 60 and 90. But the date starts from when the reactor leaves the farm. And get it booked as soon as you can as the vets get booked up quick with testing as a lot of people are on the treadmill. In our area anyway.
Always try to do other cattle work whilst they are going through vaccinating, pd’s etc.

We had a test last month and one cow was 1mm off being inconclusive, vet advised us to get rid but she’s a decent cow and incalf although 11 years old, how much of a risk would I be taking in keeping her.
Never had a reactor before, had the odd inconclusive

Vet told us today and tbf our vets are VERY hot on tb, that unless they are definitely a reactor/inconclusive that they are no more likely to have tb than those who had no reaction at all. We had plenty rise by 6ml on top and bottom and we were asking if that means they are likely to be infected and the answer was no more so than something with no reaction at all. Personally dont worry about her if it were me anyway.

Yep be prepared to be testing at around those intervals for 12 months at least .!Once your shut down that's it your screwed.
He will need two clear tests at least 60 days apart to go clear so the minimum time possible will be 120 days from when the reactors leave, that’s provided you can get your tests booked in exactly when you want them and have no more reactors.

I would keep her . We have had a few inconclusives that have been retested and gone clear. Without opening a whole can of wrorms ...I thinks sometimes it can be the way the vet injects them .

Our vets are TB testing vets only they won't do other work . You have to book up a 'proper ' vet .

We are in mid wales and when the vet checked up after 3 days he or she only had a quick look without even putting cattle into crush
But those days are gone so I was informed yesterday now the checking on the third day is very strict
It is 14 years or so since we had cattle

That’s because at one time there was no TB in the area, the testing was a formality, no one expected to go down, the situation is very different today.
Dad said as a young man, a badger was something he’d only ever heard of but never seen, that’s not the case anymore either.
