Having previously had notification from the WAG that all IRS would be removed as reactors, after an 18 month plus TB shutdown, today’s mail revealed that we now have to isolate the IRS!:scratchhead:

I thought you've always had to isolate the IRs?

IR's have to be isolated from the minute they become an IR at a TB test regardless of what happens down the line, ie : if they are taken or left on farm for a retest.

The vet who carried out the TB test should always make this clear to the farmer when any animal becomes an IR.

Im sure our resident TFF TB expert who knows more about TB and TB rules than the rest of us put together and has been a great help to many of us(y) aka young @matthew can confirm.

Two neighbours went down at the end of November 2018. It takes til the beginning of June 2019 to be officially told we have to pre movement test anything being sold and need to test the entire herd ASAP, when young stock, in calf heifers and dry cows are now away grazing. :banghead:

Since the end of November 2018 and the letter arriving in June 2019 well over 100 head of stock have been sold without being pre movement tested from one farm in the 3km radius :facepalm::mad::mad::banghead:

Is it just isolating the IRs until they are removed, or until they are retested ?
I had notice in the post to slaughter reactors and previously received notification that post 18 months under TB restrictions all IRS would also be taken for slaughter, but had no slaughter notice for these ,only an isolation notice.

In typical WAG style, you might get "the letter" today.

Do you want the IRs to go? They might still take them if you ask for them to go.

I don’t WANT them to go as majority of IRS here go clear and stay clear,I was fully expecting for them to automatically go due to the previous letter.

Looked back at some old TB paperwork, and you are correct a TB34, Notice of Isolation of Animals was issued for two IRs , there is a note on the letter that suggest the Welsh take this seriously.
I had forgotten that IRs have to be isolated.
