Temp Gauge MF 398

The Temp Gauge on my Mf 398 has not worked in many many years. Thought I would have a bit of a fiddle. Assuming there is a wire that goes to some form of sender somewhere. An initial 1st look about can’t see any wire at the rad cap, bottom of rad or near the pipes that I assume is the water pump, though will admit it is a dark old hole looking at it in a shed and the loader restricts things further of course. Can anyone tell me where it definitely is? Thanks.

Either screwed into the thermostat housing or into the top of the cylinder head just behind it. Front left side of the head.

When you find it pull the wire off and connect it to earth. If the gauge reads hot you have a faulty sender
