And to think that we were all worried that Tesco was prepared to insult the entire UK livestock industry, just to jump on the Vegan bandwagon.

This is them proudly promoting ??British Beef?? in their new ad campaign for foil wrapped 'oven ready' Christmas Beef ?:

Not being funny but the Mrs and I were discussing roasting meats and chicken in the plastic oven bags are popular.

Why are there not beef roasts ready seasoned in oven bags.....or are there?

The purpose of the chicken in a plastic oven bag is hygiene to prevent bacteria spread. Too many people were buying chickens, unwrapping, washing under the tap and thus spreading E-coli etc around their kitchen before putting it in the oven. Little did they realise this was spreading bacteria which would otherwise be killed by the oven itself.

Point is folk don’t like getting their ovens dirty so either in a plastic covered foil tray or oven bag makes the product more attractive.

If bio produced plastics can be used or recyclable aluminium then environmental harm from packaging can be reduced.

I'd agree in many respects.

Even chicken in a bag needs the bag removing for the last 20mins or so of cooking time to crisp the skin.....so that won't help with the oven cleaning aspect.

I also question whether the plastic once used for cooking would be suitable for reyccling - like bale wrap they prefer to recycle clean uncontaminated plastic etc.

Yes and if you've ever eaten supermarket sliced beef, then you've experienced it. Prepared with 101g of beef per 100g of finished product or roast smoked Ham 114g per 100g, no added water, it's the only way of cooking without a large loss of product weight.
