I see that bit now, you made a good job of it. I'm a professional stonemason/drystone waller hence the interest.

About 2 or 3 topstones in from the very left, upto the step is what i rebuilt. I got the line slightly wrong, but i actually ran out of stone! We have plenty stone bings but i wasn't inclined to fetch any over and do it proper.

Iv never been trained/taught. Iv put up a lot of rough bits, too :rolleyes: I enjoy dyking and get a lot of satisfaction when it's done - but the thought of starting a slab puts me off. I'm useless at gate cheeks.

you'll have to translate slab and gate cheeks, north Antrim is close to Scotland but some of the lingo doesn't travel.( I think I know what you mean)

Slab is just a length of dyke which has slipped or is down - usually refers more to a bigger length, which is right down to the ground.
"Go and build that slab of dyke..."

The cheek is the part you build up behind the gatepost. Iv never heard it called anything else - would you call it a butt maybe?

we call it a slap instead of slab no idea why, cheek could be called anything,stop end, corner, butt end etc.

What do you guys call it when you throw the wall back together just to make it stock proof instead of walking it properly? We call it singling
over here the field walls are almost all single skin walls, generally we have much bigger boulder type stones than you do. Plenty of them are just hanging together, It's a slightly different skill than double skin walls like yours. There's a stonewalling thread in Agricultural Matters I'll put up a couple of pictures and tag your name to it.(when I get the pics)

@TexelBen this what you mean?
10 ewes with lambs in the wood tonight, got them back and just threw it up. The footings are pretty crap looking on the other side. It will slip and be down again I'm sure. Really needs taken down properly and started from scratch - so didn't think it was worth wasting time on tonight. Itl hold the ewes where they are supposed to be, for now atleast.

That's it, looks a tidy job [emoji106]
I've done a bit this afternoon, neighbours hoggs kept coming in and scratting on the fence posts [emoji49][emoji49]
I'll take a picture tomorrow, it makes yours look like the great wall of China!
I'm hoping that it looks so bad they might redo it properly [emoji3][emoji3]

If you stand in the trees looking into the field... you can see there are one or two big air gaps :oops:
