Hi just been reading through your posts as I haven’t been on for a while. I had lambs into Vivers today and they were meant to be paying £3.75 but only got £3.60? Do they deduct you hard if you have to many overweight and do they have a weight limit ?? It’s not easy to get them booked in and the lambs are doing tremendous this backend, but they are expecting them to slow down in next few weeks and price hopefully to rise. Thanks
Can't remember exactly what the cut off is but I'm pretty sure Vivers adjust the ppk on overweight lambs so that they work out the same total value as a lamb at the max weight. Not sure I've explained myself well but eg if the price was 400ppk and max weight 21kg then any overweight lambs would be adjusted so that they worked out at £84 - a 23kg carcase would be paid at 365.2 still making £84.

Yes... on paper.

Or the reality they pay full upto cut off, then take the 'extra' kg's for 0p.
Depending on how you wish to look at it, ofcourse

I remember the first time I sold dead.... I thought my lambs had been incredibly uniform....
And presumably they weren't? What I always think is that one grade difference in fat and conformation changes an R3L to an O2, the difference between which you would think would be readily apparent even live. But grading is subjective and if both are borderline and go the wrong way, there you have it.

All over weight!.... just the 21kg or whatever it was showing on sheet.

Spoke to Vivers today and said they are now paying £3.80 this week, at last things could be moving in the right direction. They are also down to a 2 week waiting list.

Yeah trade looks to be steadying the past week or 2, an upturn had to be coming.

Down to 2 weeks? I've not had to even wait a week to get lambs away through them this year yet :censored:

See how it goes though, I've got 120 ready to go. I'll phone them later and see what's being said

I’ve been booking my lambs in with the girl from Scotbeef and it’s been usually 2 /3 weeks wait. What weight do send your lambs into Vivers at? My last few lots have been overweight with no feeding and got 150 going in next Monday.

There's practically no export this year, so it's domestic kills mainly. They need to be more fleshy and heavier than normal... I usually get them away 19-20kg, but 21kg is the goal this year.

Lambs got badly held back with the lack of grass, so I am feeding - but I'm not pumping it into them. The lambs I've drawn are all 40-45kg, so if they've to wait a week I won't worry too much - it'll take them to the top end limit, hopefully without going over (y)

Are vivers penalising on overweight lambs? Scotbeef bridge of Allan now deducting 50p/kg if 22.5 kgdwt and over with £1/kg deduction if 25kgdwt and over

@Nithsdale Farmer. I got told vivers vivers are wanting them all bellied and crutched now. Is that correct?

Yeah. Have been for 2 weeks. Should've posted it on here - used the Harrington trailer to do a batch coming up a fortnight ago. Great bit of kit - bellied, crutched, tailed and tagged 86 lambs in 2 and 1/2 hours. Reckon if I'd been doing then in a pen the way I usually did them it'd have taken another 30-40mins... then another 20-30mins tagging for by!! So call it an hour saved (y)

Dumfries Market all lambs are to be done as of tomorrows sale, Longtown Thursday...
