TF44 Combine

We have an old TF44 that's good and reliable in every way except that we have to bleed it if we leave it any longer than 24hrs. It's got the Merc engine in it. Would a non return valve in the fuel line work or maybe a tap to turn fuel on and off. Any ideas or experiences would be great please.

Could put something between tank and engine quite easily I'd have thought - are you sure its not drawing air from tank pipe somewhere?

I'm not sure to be honest. We are always busy when we are using it so just give it a quick prime and we are going. This time of year we like to give her a run every few weeks and it's become a bit of a pain. I have heard that some SPFH with Merc engines have same problem.

Could you not fit a 12v inline pump we had the same problem about 25 years ago with a nh135 combine bloody pest put a pump in and it never happened again

had tx 66 with same problem. on all the pipes tank side of the injector pump they have thick rubber washers on each union replaced all them , no more trouble. are they the same on tf? the rubber washers fit over the flared end of the pipe and when you tighten thepipe nut it sqeezes the washer down onto the flare.

our old claas jaguar was similar, if you didnt prime it, it took an age of turning over before it would fire. changed the seals in the primer pump and some of the quick connectors on the fuel pipes like yellowfrog said. it helped but didnt cure it totally.

I drove a newish TF44 years ago that needed priming every day or it wouldn't start. I wondered how common this was. An electric pump should help prime it but unless it has some kind of cut off or relief valve wouldn't it burn out eventually?

I'll have to investigate. it sounds like the problem could be air getting in which hadn't crossed my mind to be honest.
Almost certainly,it has to suck the fuel up a long way, many places for it to get in,the bleed screw ontop the 2 fuel filters would be a favourite, new copper washer there for a start.
