The Beef Tracker thread (no Sheep)

It must be nice to have a herd of elephants wandering round the farm and they add up when sold, never more so than atm, but there must be a happy medium those cows will cost a fortune to keep, they’ll eat a bale of silage each for breakfast
I don’t do well with cull cows. A lot of folks tell me they buy these big cows because they can easily get £1000 for culls. I think last year my culls averaged £700 this year haven’t had many away averaged £850
They are at the end of their working lives when they leave here

I only got average types but getting a few to £1400 and they would of fattened some more too. Pretty happy to clear £1000 with 8-12 yr old cows that dont owe me anything.

When we had all almost pure limousine cows a round bale would do 20 cows for a day but was getting where that wasn't enough as they got more and more pure and bigger. Now with smaller Angus cows a bale will do 25 cows a day comfortably and 30 if they are fat (but usually a bale to 40 and straw to fill them up in practice) It really adds up over a winter.

Depends on genetics of food conversion.
Ours are big, but come inside October off grass still fat lumps. Stay on straw and odd block till they calf
Know others come in skinny and feeder wagon going with all sorts of rations to get them fit for calving.

Good prices, what price for R4L?
Direct or through OLMC?
Got unexpected call for 20 Monday morning for monday afternoon, so had to hurry about to get all sorted. Hope the price is as good as yours.
I don't have any grades R4L, this would be the closest. All go through CQLP as I get the insurance cover through them. Yes I got called Friday for lifting of farm Sunday Am/kill monday

Well funnily enough I have a batch of cows around 12/13 yo and will be having a look to see what’s going on with them
Last lot like that I scanned in July were all in calf

That's a fair age.what did it make?
80 odd pence, just under 500 kg I can’t quite remember. It looked like it had shrunk with age, the guy had just weaned a calf off it but it wouldn’t hold again. I pointed out that maybe the bull wasn’t keen, how many 20 year old lads want to be cougared by someone’s great great grandma? 😱
