Just thought I'd start a thread demanding more raising the subject and discussion of things that farmers should do to make their farms better. You know you're not good enough and don't know your own place well enough, so take advice from those who know better than you. In general being patronised is free, but you may have to pay for anything constructive to be said and, even then, there is no guarantee it will be of any use anyway.

I’m looking at a big fencing grant at the minute. The idea is great but I’ve still got to find 25% of the money though :(
Being advised to spend £10k on a handling system. I've only 25% to find and my £800 handling system (including labour) is fine for the 3 days a year I use it for 30 cows.

Read the small print carefully. Most grants you have to pay out in full first then reclaim the money back by submitting the invoices and proof of payment. Then wait for some tick boxer to pay you out. Fine if they pay out in a couple of weeks but mine was over 6 months and it nearly crippled us at the time.

So far it seems all good: pay up in six weeks provides the work is done (y)

I understand your point though so thank you for the heads up.
