Another well written piece by the Guardian and I note it's been pointed out we have the lowest food prices in Europe, not a word arguing against increases.
Not that there's a choice, we buy in so much the price is what it is on the world market.

While the Treasury has been telling supermarkets not to increase prices, even as costs to suppliers increase, ministers at Defra have pointed out that farmers and food suppliers going out of business would be more inflationary than a modest increase in food prices.”

🙄

Well, the supermarkets have not been listening to the Treasury then as prices have been increasing and well above the headline rate of inflation, just that the increases have not been making their way back down the supply chain to the primary producers.

Ministers at DEFRA? WTF? Have we finally had a decent one installed under cover of darkness and no one noticed?

The Supermarkets announced last week that food price inflation had peaked and commodity prices are set to fall later this year.
I thought that's nice of them to let us know 🤦‍♂️.
Does that mean the beef price will fall 🙄. Or will it stay at the improved present rate and the supermarkets profits will take a hit..

The trouble is that the Supermarkets and Dairies have got form.

Big fines all round a few years ago (2007) for price fixing. Wiseman paid a £6 million fine. Total fines were £116 million

Henry Dimbleby on the radio saying he hasn't been invited. Whatever the failings of his report in terms of blaming farming for climate change, it contained a huge amount of valid recommendations on healthy eating and food poverty. To not invite the author of the most recent report on food to this summit shows the complete absence of joined up thinking. Heard elsewhere that Clarkson has had an invite, if that's the case, and he is there to represent UK ag, then a bomb scare needs triggering just before kick off.

I hope you didn’t read the piece by Dimbleby’s wife Jemima at the weekend. Her "knowledge" of the subject she’s apparently written a book about (!) is shocking, worryingly so given who her husband is. I assume they don’t speak…..

Nope. Not reading anything by a Jemima. Sorry.
