The war in Ukraine...

Russian special forces have had 2 failed attacks on airfields , I don't call that holding back quality stuff.
I do wonder whether Russian soldiers aren't fully with this or their morale is low , either way I have a feeling they may turn round and change regime in their own country.

They didn't seem to be backed up properly though. And they aren't the first country to have had failed special forces missions. It's as if Putin is holding back somehow. Maybe his plan is to test the water with regards to Ukranian resistance, offer a laurel branch, then if its refused (which it has) commit to maximum force.

Something just doesn't add up tbh. The figures we're being fed of Russian military actually in Ukraine seems to be a fraction of the 200,000 that was surrounding it. The pictures we're being fed of Russian military in Ukraine seem to show more conscripted type soldiers with older military hardware. Odd considering the military budget of Russia? If you were expecting a long conflict possibly including a much wider region would you send in your bishops first? No you'd chuck some pawns out to test the water. Perhaps he's waiting for more civilians to leave before commiting to heavy airpower. After all he views Ukraine as an extension of Russia, thus Ukrainians as potential Russians.

I think the battle for Ukraine has barely begun and the West need to make sure they dont miscalculate one of the most dangerous men on the planet. After all he's ex KGB.

I am not well informed enough to know if Russia has threatened any other non NATO states not to join but if this is true then Putin has to be called account now. Maybe he has just “lost it” and is trying to rebuild “the Berlin Wall”. This mustn’t be allowed to happen. Perhaps we need to help his own people turn on him and his regime. I wonder??

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova has warned both Finland and Sweden that they will face "severe military and political consequences" if they attempt to join NATO
This is the most concerning news of the day; what if they apply to join tomorrow and the NATO states say 'Yes, right now if you want'?

The invasion so far seems a little flat and reserved. The Russians seem to be opting for ground warfare aimed mainly at the Ukranian military than a more heavy airborne attack, like the opening of the Iraq war. Its as though Putin is putting forward his weaker military elements first and holding back his better quality stuff for a more severe offensive down the line. Anyone else think the same?
I raised this earlier, and it is possible, but my own time in the military and general experience of human endeavours steer me towards a conclusion along the lines of Hanlon's razor...

Or is it Russian troops just don't want this fight ?
From a earlier post, Ukrainian civilians are bravely taking the micky out of Russian troops on the street & the Russians seem to be taking it in good humour....I really don't think they want to be there.

A Ukrainian driver offers Russian soldiers - who are on their way to Kyiv - to tow their tank that has run out of fuel, and to help them to return to Russia. They laughed
Translated video.
If you are Ukrainian locals with small arms what do you actually do in this situation?

I doubt they want any prisoners?
But they don’t want the Russians to refuel and carry on. Kill all the Russkis and capture the tank?

Hard to tell really. It all seems a little odd at the moment though. It's an invasion, but not an invasion if you get what I mean.

I would imagine the aim was, initially at least, to preserve as much as they could for their own ends. That may of course change if the Russian ground troops continue to be rebuffed.:(

German transport minister tweeted that Germany will put on free trains for refugees hoping to relocate.

Ukrainian President tweeted back: 'ha ha ha not falling for that one again'...

I'll get my coat....

Lots of good stuff on the web that does restore your faith in humanity somewhat. The memes are off the scale as well. I'm told Abramovich has given back control of Chelsea to the board as well.

People in Poland are queuing in droves at football stadiums to donate blood.

Germany announced they are sending anti-tank weapons and even MANPADs. They also agree to chuck Russia out of SWIFT.

I don't think anyone could have estimated the value of social media in this.
It's a shame they had to be forced to do it
