The war in Ukraine...

As Johnson says ” NATO is an expression of the military power of the United States in Europe”. Never a truer word has been said & is it really any surprise that Russia sees it that way.

The NATO is an expression of the power of a defensive alliance. Russia is an expression of a land grabbing stae empowered by the KGB. Can you still not spot the difference?

Brian doesn't seem to accept that difference. I have not decided if this is due to a fundamental view NATO is not a defensive alliance with no interest in furthering aggression or simply because NATO is in Brians view synonymous with his version of the Great Satan, namely the USA. Maybe he will toddle along to provide some clarity, not that on a wet dismal morning in Lincolnshire any explanation or clarity is of importance to world affairs. Might though add to this thread. And will be of great interest to GCHQ and the equivalent in Moscow. Assume it is warm, dry and sunny over the border in Norfolk Cheers :D

With more & more drones of greater power & distance becoming available to both sides we will witness the kind of murder & carnage never seen before, all the while the world just looks on & does nothing to stop it much as in Gaza, in fact in both cases stupid Western governments have actively encouraged it.
Seems we in the West learn nothing.

Crumbs Brian. Now its not only Nuclear weapons but drones.

NATO may not be aggressive but some of its members are as has been proved in the past, these days they seem to just to fund/equip aggression but I suppose this would be "good" aggression according to some because they are "the west"/NATO members

You have to make a value judgement; no human endeavour is perfect and nobody is claiming such. NATO has been and is entirely a force for good, certainly members have not been at various times.

But to argue that NATO is at fault for its members' actions when not acting in a NATO context is idiotic.

Compare this to Russia and its actions, its unaccountability, its ignoring of law, its murders, mass rapes, mass kidnappings, tortures etc. etc., all deliberate state actions, not those of rogue individuals and not prosecuted.

Some aggression is for the greater good, it is necessary and it is justified; such is the situation for Ukraine. If Ukraine began raping, murdering, torturing and kidnapping, it would deservedly be condemned, it does none of this - it defends its integrity and its people, within the rule of law, the diametric opposite of the Russian position.

You could well be right Brian. So that would be a first strike Nuclear attack on a NATO country by Russia. That would certainly prove an interesting moment in history.
No it would be a first strike nuke attack on a non NATO country Ukraine, how would the West react without provoking WW3?
