FIL says Hiel (as in Hitler) instead of oil. MIL says The-ater instead of theatre 'cos she thinks it's posh. Had an Aunt who used to do a passable impression of the Queen (think Brian Sewell) when answering the phone, then it was broad Devon dialect once you said who you were!

Winds me up when people say I-ran, I-raq, I-talian etc.

I think 'eil and The - ater were common pronunciations in this area - My Grandfather always used them along with "fray-gile , with a soft G . There was on old lassie here who had a job as a phone answerer for the local doctor . She used to answer with "Hell- ew this is Dr. ----'s Surgery " in absolute "Cat - Glaaaaws " tones . When you made yourself known , she would relapse into the broadest local dialect " Eee- 'Ello ---!

5yr old and 6 of his pals got letters home from school today for “poking a dog through the fence and making it bark”.

the day before, he and his pals had locked the janny in a garden shed (padlock and hasp)..........she had the keys in the shed with her, which caused a bit of a problem.

letter home about the dog, but just a verbal warning about the incarcerated janny. Poor Janny.

That’s lads for you.

They don’t change. His O level PE teacher says he’s doing brilliantly at school, can’t really fault him except he gets all the work done “and then spends the last twenty minutes of the lesson dicking around on YouTube!”

They lost a ball on top of the music room today. They tried climbing up into a pyramid and couldn’t reach. He then has a light bulb moment....”hang on, back in a minute”

He disappeared into the lunch hall, nicked a crutch off a lad with a broken leg and then managed to get the ball with that.

He took it back..... later.

Happy days, but of course he can’t see it like that at the moment.

That kind of ingenuity and adaptability will.be beaten out of him by proper site training. :(
