Thinking of getting out of dairying

We used to milk 90-100 in an abreast made from a bail set on a concrete base. Started with 4 units with jars, then doubled to 8, then fitted ACRs, then auto dial feeders, was a really nice place to work as the roof was clear corrugated except for the few days a year when it got too warm. Main thing was we did it over a period and it was done on the cheap.

Having read all your posts vulcan, and taking note that you don't like 14 milkings/wk, oad might help with that and make better use of your 50 acre block.I have no experience of oad but would give it a go before I would sell cows. It's not for the faint hearted but you could try some early spring calvers on it and the cows that don't adapt put back on tad or put calves on some of them and just change over gradually to minimise culling. It would be worth asking oad folks on here for more info if you think it would work for you.
