Thinking of replacing a jd2850 with a new Valtra a93 ???

bit new to this forum thing
I'd love to hear what people think of the a93 or what experiences you might have.....?
I am a fairly small farmer 66 acres of grazing (small sheep flock and bullocks for finishing) and 45 acres of woodland (which provides timber for my firewood business)
Some outside chainsaw work locally and a fair bit of agriculture contracting for small guys around here + hedge trimming + timber winching.

I have been running my Jd 2850 loader tractor for 10 years now and love it to pieces, I've done my best to keep her tidy, long story short... A collector/enthusiast has made me a very fair offer for her, so I went in search of a replacement.......
Now I should point out that I am no fan of new tractors in fact most of them I wouldn't dream of going near for so many reasons many of you could probably guess, but this Valtra in a local dealers yard has taken my eye it appears to be a very old school, heavy built tractor but what's it really like......?
And should I be booking a demo.....?

Will not make you as happy as chosing a smal n series from valtra. Older a series is better built and engine is 4 syl. 3 syl is noisy but not thirsty. Buildquality of a series is a bit plastic If you ask me. Valtra is simple but

A series Valtra is a good solid tractor, very small cab and dry clutch that is not long lasting are downsides that spring to mind.
I know someone that had it in the Massey version 4445? and his clutch's didn't last a 1000 hours on a loader and the shuttle lever was some gurt stick on left side of the seat that come up through from the floor very crudely.

Thank you chaps
I did consider keeping the old girl to be honest, but the offer is just to good to turn down.
I did also look at newer jds but felt the newer ones lacked the simple robust qualities of old, which is what has grabbed my attention with this Valtra,
Climb under the thing and it's built massively strong and simple with a old school gearbox and tough looking castings
Hydraulics again simple but maybe lacking in flow.....?
3 cylinder engine does seem to give people the willys........
Just can't decide on the engine.....
Anyone out there run this engine.......?
Yes cab is small for modern standards but very similar to the 2850 square cab, which I my case might be a advantage especially in the woods and narrow tracks and lanes around here
Buts is it all looks and do so to speak....?

Thousand hour clutch doesn't sound so good....
Loader tractor do take a beating on the clutch and after you replace your first it kind of make you take things a little bit easy from that point in.

Evening jack, we have a 3cyl N103 valtra :) seems a fairly good beast but it does lack engine braking being 3cyl but you just go steady down hill.
if you run your deere the machinery you have will suit the valtra.
if you are looking at a new A they have the same clutch and shuttle as the n range no dry clutch :)

Wet clutch sounds hopeful then, I guess as you say engine braking would be reduced over the four pot,
I tend to work with 6 ton loads mostly the odd 8 ton but generally I keep things small and manageable so maybe I could learn to live with the engine braking.
Celtis do you find the engine settled vibration wise....?
Valtra claim the thee pot is very fuel efficient, Massey I think use the same engine and similar claims, that would be nice going forward.

Get the jd sold if it's good money, it will only get older!! Small A series valtra, about 90 hp. Next door neighbour has one. Bomb proof little thing . If they haven't knackered it must be ok.

The valtra are a bombproof tractor , made in Finland with forestry work in mind , suit you to the ground , I bought my first valtra 22 yrs ago , a little 6400 , still here going the same as new with 13500 hrs on it now.

I like the valtra but wouldnt consider an early a series just on the dry clutch alone. now if the later ones are wet clutch i couldnt see a reason not to, certainly not the three cylinder engine noise.

get a demo though if u are serious, some tractors might catch ur eye and tick all the boxes but not be your cup of tea like the 2850 u love.
our 7740 is ex\ctly what we needed at the time, does its job better than anything else i know but god i just dont like the thing, but nothing i have driven can do the job better or indeed as good, thats life so the 7740 stays.

Better with an older 50 series Valtra, 6550 Hitech etc. Great engines, built really tough. Dry clutch on the A series is really not up to the job.

No the engines are smooth I cannot report any vibration in 1700 hours :)
Mine has the auto revving function which is annoying when you are pottering about feeding up but the A series doesn't have that.

Might be best to find out if the tractor you`re interested in has the wet or dry clutch - I`ve read before that the dry clutch model has a short clutch life especially if used with a loader.
You may get more relevant advice on here too if you can get more detail.

The new a series are the hitech transmission , which has a forward and reverse pack which have a 6-9000 hr lifespan before needing a new set of discs.
