Thinning Some ash woodland

got two woods, not huge, with ash possibly 30-40 yrs old. It's never been managed before and needs thinning out.

I didn't not need the timber, where does one start?

Will it's value cover the costs?

Contact a local firewood merchant, not neccesserily a big one and offer half of for sale standing. Sell it for about £27/t and make sure it is all weighed as soon as it is felled and hauled away. If they make a nice job and clear/burn the lop and top, offer the other half to them.

Is ash really £27t standing?!

Too much effort! Got loads of bales, have to faff about drying and loading it.

Thought crossed my mind though!

About to gap up and improve nearly 2k of hedge so this will help find the 20% FWAG can't

Can someone tell me the difference between a cubic metre and a ton when selling standing wood? I've offered some ash at £20/cu m - is this too high or too low? I've just about worked out a long ash stem is a cubic metre, but what weight will it be?

£110/ton? never, that's about £200/cubic metre in firewood terms, and thats without taking the cost of felling into acount. It would be the most expensive form heating in the UK.
